It has been reported that, The Buzzard bombshell is one of the most famous aircraft in modelling history and was one the most dreaded contender in free flight circles. As I understand the Bombshell was a club project of the Buzzards club of Chicago. Joe Konefes, who is credited with the design, built his Buzzard Bombshell in 1940 and flew it in mass demonstration flights at the 1940 Nats and regional meets. He set a Class C Open flight record with it at the 1940 Nats. His first flight was 49 minutes, 40 seconds. The official time for all three flights was over 58 minutes. The original model had a 72” wingspan. The BMJR 1/2A Texaco version has a 44” span and 330 sq. in. of area.
